On Friday I was crazy enough to have scheduled both a consultation with a dietitian for Quinn along with his usual PT with Gail. DUMB!
Vicki (the dietitian) was here at 9 and that lasted until a pinch after 11. Gail was here at 1:30. In between these times I had to walk up to the library to use their fax machine because I had forgotten to have J bring along my paperwork with him to work. It was a nutso day.
I was SO happy to have had Vicki out. What an eye opening experience! First of all, I haven't done any weight updates here in an age, so here you go!
Parker now weighs 23 pounds 5 ounces.
Quinn's weight was 18 pounds 8 ounces.
The boys are almost five pounds apart now!
So, Vicki gave me a lot of great ideas to help boost Quinn's caloric intake. Things I never would have DREAMED of doing! Keep in mind, I did work on a cardiac floor in my former life! I realize there's a big difference between cardiac patients and 19 month olds, but still!
Some of her recommendations were:
to make Quinn's milk with 2oz of whole milk and 2oz of half and half. (!!!!!) She also said that I can add a tablespoon of Nestle Quik powder per 4oz of milk. Holy crap!
Other ideas were to add gravy to meats, cheese sauce to vegetables, to basically butter everything. To put butter on bread and THEN peanut butter and to butter both sides of grilled cheese sandwiches. I will be really curious to see how much weight he has gained next month. I'll be sure to keep you all posted.
Basically Vicki just said that we are doing everything right with the types of foods we are providing, I just need to relax about the sugar/fat issue. I also need to start feeding the boys snacks. She said they still need to be eating every 2-3 hours during the day. Simple things that I don't know why I didn't think of them myself. Today the boys had pancakes made with ricotta cheese for breakfast!
